Teresa Hubbard / Alexander Birchler comptent parmi les artistes contemporains majeurs travaillant sur le film et les nouveaux médias. Hubbard / Birchler ont recadré dans une perspective féministe l’histoire d’une artiste américaine inconnue qui fut l’amante de Giacometti dans les années 1920. Pour leur installation vidéo et sculpturale, la Fondation Giacometti a permis aux artistes de filmer l’œuvre Tête de Femme (Flora Mayo). Ce livre contextualise les installations Flora et Bust et révèle une période particulière de la vie de Giacometti à travers une sélection de sculptures et de dessins inédits des années 1920.
Teresa Hubbard / Alexander Birchler are among the most important contemporary artists working with film and new media. Hubbard / Birchler reframe, from a feminist perspective, the history of an unknown American artist, Flora Mayo, who was Alberto Giacometti’s lover during the 1920s. As part of Hubbard / Birchler’s film and sculpture installation, the Fondation Giacometti, Paris, granted the artists unprecedented access to film Giacometti’s Head of a Woman (Flora Mayo). This richly illustrated book contextualizes the installations Flora and Bust, and reveals a particular period in Giacometti’s life through a selection of his previously unseen sculptures and drawings from the 1920s.
